gaim-hotkeys software package provides Configurable global hotkeys for pidgin, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gaim-hotkeys
gaim-hotkeys is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gaim-hotkeys package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gaim-hotkeys *
You will get with gaim-hotkeys package name, version, architecture and description in a table
